Guinness World Record goes to Kuwait

We did it! Kuwait collected 56.934 tons of clothing for the new Guinness World Record for the amount of clothing collected by the 'youths of Kuwait'. A special thanks to Operation Hope for allowing me to donate some clothing as well as the clothing from my mom, sister and her co-workers.

I hope the clothing will help the refugees suffering this winter.Press release

Non-Muslim food cashier lane in Dubai

Dubai: People in the UAE should pay for products that are not consumed by Muslims at the designated cashier to abide by the rules set by the Dubai Municipality with respect to others’ beliefs.
Dubai Municipality has asked supermarkets to provide one cashier specifically made for purchasing these foods due to several complaints made by Muslims in the UAE. According to Khalid Mohammad Sharif, CEO of the Food Control Department, this is a form of organisation to avoid customer dissatisfaction.

“The signs put in the supermarkets are to display that products must be segregated since we received many complaints from people who did not think it was right to have the same cashier for non-Muslim foods and other foods,” he said.

Sharif explained that the municipality gave supermarkets options such as setting up a separate cashier inside the pork section of the supermarket or having a designated cashier in the payment area specifically made for non-Muslim products. Another official in the municipality stated that this is a rule that has been implemented for years, however, most people are not aware of its existence.link

I didn't know UAE even sold 'Non-Muslim' items besides alcohol.

U.S. citizen shot in Saudi Arabia

(Reuters) - A U.S. citizen was shot and wounded in eastern Saudi Arabia on Friday, state news agency SPA reported, adding to security concerns in the world's top oil exporting nation.

A vehicle carrying two U.S. citizens came under fire in the Eastern Province district of al-Ahsa, one of the main centers of Saudi Arabia's minority Shi'ites, SPA said, citing a police statement. It was not clear who shot at the vehicle.

The wounded man was taken to hospital and was in a stable condition, it added.Saudi officials are concerned about the spread of sectarian strife from the conflicts in Yemen, Iraq and Syria. Some leading clerics of Saudi Arabia's official Wahhabi school of Sunni Islam view Shi'ites as heretics.
In the last attack on Saudi soil targeting Americans, a gunman killed a U.S. citizen and wounded another in the capital Riyadh last October.

In November, seven Shi'ite Muslims were shot dead in al-Ahsa as they marked their holy day of Ashoura. Saudi Arabia has arrested the four main suspects and said it believes it was ordered by Islamic State militants from abroad

Qatif, another center of the Saudi Shi'ite minority alongside Al-Ahsa, has been a focus of anti-government demonstrations in support of Shi'ites who complain of discrimination. The Saudi authorities deny any discrimination. link

Man caught in 13 year old's Bedroom

Kuwaiti police arrested a man on charges of having a relationship with a 13-year-old local girl after her mother saw him in her bedroom at night.

The Kuwaiti mother said she was checking lights at home in the capital Kuwait City before going to bed when she noticed a man was in her daughter’s bedroom.

The mother told police the man, who is nearly 10 years old than her daughter, fled when he saw her, according to ‘Al Watan’ newspaper.

It said police later arrested the man on charges of intruding into a house and having an affair with a minor, adding that the girl admitted that he has been into her bedroom many times and that they love each other

Bon Apetit at The Scientific Center

The Scientific Center brings 'Bon Apetit' to Kuwait.

-Brought to you by La Cite in Paris, Bon Appétit presents food to visitors in an upbeat, fun and educational way. This exhibition has no forced path but instead is built around major topics in an intuitive way with galleries split into five color-coded themed areas. Each theme offers visitors oversized and unusual hands-on exhibits, individual and collective games, as well as multimedia and audiovisual stations. The label copy engages teenagers and children in an informal, friendly tone that sidesteps hang-ups and fosters introspective questioning. At the entrance to each themed gallery, there is a counter offering practical advice, in-depth articles and quizzes to test visitors’ knowledge.

Each gallery is filled with hands-on interactives that help visitors explore their own personal eating habits as well as the eating habits of other cultures. Visitors can discover topics such as physical activity versus food intake, the workings of the digestive system, creating a balanced diet and the origin of the foods that populate the shelves of their local grocery stores. Additionally, tough topics such as anorexia, bulimia, world hunger and obesity are explored in fun and nonjudgmental ways.

3 Doodler- draw in 3D

Ever dreamed of drawing in 3D?
Then dream no more! The 3Doodler is the world’s first and best 3D printing pen that allows you to draw in 3D by extruding heated plastic filament that cools almost instantly into a solid, stable structure. You’ll be able to draw up into the air and create anything you can think of, whether it be a lamp shade, an architectural model, decorations, or even jewelry.
We wanted to design a 3D printing device that could be used within minutes, without needing any technical knowledge, software or computers. We also wanted it to be affordable as well as fun, so that anyone could 3Doodle! Compact and easy to use, the 3Doodler allows you to literally draw in the air – whether freestyle 3D sketching or tracing shapes from templates to make larger structures and objects.

It started off as a Kickstarter project in 2013 and is available for shipment on May 1, 2015. The pen is $99.99, $9.99 for 25-piece plastic refills as well as other accessories. You can preorder here although I think delivery time is based on how many preorders are already in the system. They also have an IG account @3doodler with some examples of what can be made.

Maya La Chocolaterie

I found my favorite chocolate café from Bahrain in Kuwait in the Arabella Complex. It was seven years ago I tasted the best chocolate ever in the mall in Bahrain.  The café is filled with all kinds of chocolate and even has chocolate being piped in across the ceiling.

Check out the pipes full of white and milk chocolate
Inside the drum shapes is swirling chocolate pumping through the pipes

I had the Classic Chocolate  Fondant, there are no words to describe the taste but I do think two people should share because it is so rich in taste.
Their crackle hot chocolate topped it off

If you love chocolate this is definitely a place you will want to visit. You can check out their IG page @mayalachocolaterie and their website for more information.

Nouman Ali Khan coming to Kuwait

If you are interested send an email now as the seats are filling up and once capacity is met no one else will be able to attend.

Al Salam Mall Salmiya

Al Salam Mall is opened with a few stores so far. ICONIC, New Look, Fun City, Riva and a coffee shop are the only places open at this time.

Lu & Lu is still under construction but from the looks of it they should be opening soon.

There's parking out back but I don't know if there's any underground or not of course once the mall is up and running I think it will become crowded as usual in Kuwait.
