Holiday Bazaar Pictures

There was a huge turn out this year at the bazaar held at the Salwa Al-Sabah hall. There were so many stalls with amazing items for sale. I was taking pictures of the items when some crazy American guy came up to me asking me why I took his picture, I told him I wasn't taking pictures of him but of the items people were selling I also asked him if he was want by CID or something by the way he was acting he kept talking crap as he walked away. I still wonder if he was guilty of something.

 

To top it off I almost ran into my hubby's ex-wife and daughters as well. If you missed it this year make sure you plan to visit next year, it's a lot of fun.

Movenpick Christmas Program

Tomorrow Movenpick Hotel located in the Free Zone will hold their annual Christmas program which includes a Christmas market, children's games, face painting and the lighting of their outdoor Christmas tree.

Operation Hope - Christmas at Hope House

 

 

Operation Hope will be hosting their Christmas bazaar on Saturday, December 1 from 9am-3pm. Our pre-holiday bazaar  is being held in the courtyard of Hope House where you can buy your candy canes, live poinsettia plants, hand-painted cookies, holiday towels, tapestries and quilts, peppermint flavored hot chocolate packets, frankincense, myrrh, hand bag organizers, scarves, jewellery and much more. We will also debut the work of Kuwaiti/American abstract artist Rashed Al-Alban.

Bring the kids to see Santa too!! Esther's Attic will also be open for shopping.

Address: Rumaithiya, Block 9, St 92, House 23, parking for the event will be passed the house by the co-op as to not upset the neighbors.

For many Americans, Thanksgiving means turkey with all the fixings, spending time with family, and being grateful for the blessings of the year. But for many Native Americans , the holiday is a bit more complicated.

The introduction of European settlers to the Americas had a mostly tragic outcome for many indigenous communities. They lost land to people who distrusted and disrespected their way of life. They lost millions of people to territorial conflict, starvation and diseases brought from Europe. Their cultures were misunderstood, devalued and deemed inferior. Some think the traditional Thanksgiving narrative – generous Pilgrims, helpful Indians – implies Native Americans should be grateful about the events that led to their suffering.

Mahtowin Munro is co-leader of United American Indians of New England, which organizes a National Day of Mourning each year on Thanksgiving. The event began in 1970, as a way to memorialize indigenous people who died as a result of colonization and to protest continued discrimination and exploitation.

The goal: Offer an unvarnished view of what the archetypal Thanksgiving celebration meant for those who lived in America when the Pilgrims landed.

There are always 2 sides to every story. Just thought I would bring thoughts from the other people who attended the event many years ago.

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 28:

“According to astronomical calculations and visibility conditions, Monday, Aug 29th, will be the last day of Ramadan and Tuesday, Aug 30th, will be the first day of Eid Al-Fitr,” well known Kuwaiti astronomer Dr Saleh Al-Ojairi told Al-Watan Arabic daily.

Al-Ojairi called on decision-makers in Kuwait and the Islamic Arab world to shun differences and avoid controversy when it comes to the sighting of the crescent and declaration of the first day of Eid Al-Fitr. He added that differences among Sunnis and Shiites are the main cause of controversy in this issue

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 22:

The first day of Eid Al-Fitr will fall on Aug 30 because the Shawal crescent (Hegira month) will not be visible on Aug 29, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting Astronomer Adel Al-Sadoon.
Al-Sadoon explained it is impossible to see the crescent in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries except through telescopes in nations in the southern part of the equator in Africa. He said, “these countries are similar to us in most of the nights, so Aug 30 will most likely be the first day of Eid according to the visibility of the crescent.”
